“Find something you love to do and you’ll never have to work a day in your life” – Harvey MacKay
In a seminar once a classmate of mine asked our facilitator how many hours a week he worked. There he was spending the weekend sharing his skills with us and helping us to launch our own businesses and he had spent the week running his own business. Without hesitation our facilitator responded, “Zero, I work zero hours each week.”
To be honest with you, I am ashamed of my initial reaction to his response. The nice version of what I thought was, “What a jerk!” I really misunderstood him. I thought he was just not willing to share with us how much time he really put in to be successful. I was really surprised. In all other aspects of how he behaved with us he was nothing but generous and caring. He never seemed to be afraid of giving away trade secrets. Well I figured, “I guess this is the one area where we are on our own.” I was so wrong and I did not even realize how wrong I was.
Eventually I figured it out. I bet YOU picked up on it right away. He was not holding out on us. Here was a person who was spending his time to help us; here was a person whose entire business model was built around helping others. He was telling us the truth. What he was really saying is that when you enjoy what you do, it does not feel like work and you are not watching the clock.
NOW I get it. Most weeks I work zero hours too.
I wish you many weeks where you work zero hours.
