“Don’t underestimate the value of Doing Nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can’t hear, and not bothering.” ― A.A. Milne
“Did you ever stop to think, and forget to start again?” ― A.A. Milne
Give your brain and body a rest. I bet you are zipping around trying to meet this deadline and complete that project by the end of the month. That is a great recipe for ending the month tired and burned out. That’s not your goal is it?
You might not believe me, but if you take a break, if you stop thinking for a moment or two; you will come back even more productive.
How do I know? This is one of those times where I am publishing the advice that I need to receive. I will get into a sort of working frenzy and become convinced that I cannot stop. Yet when common sense prevails and I do stop, I find that when I resume my activities I am much more efficient. I do not lose time because I take a break, I gain time because I am rested and I do not make mistakes that stem from brain drain.
Go ahead and do nothing. Go ahead, stop thinking and forget to start again for just a little bit longer. Once you start again your thinking will be even more powerful than before.
Here’s to the value of doing nothing!
